Sydney CBD and South East Light Rail L3 Kingsford Line

Construction began in October 2015 and the L2 Randwick line between Circular Quay and Randwick opened on 14 December 2019. The L3 Kingsford line, which branches off from Moorpark and runs to Juniors Kingsford, also opened on 3 April 2020.

On 13 December 2012, it was decided to build a $1.6 billion line linking Circular Quay to George Street, Central Station, Moorpark, Anzac Parade and branch lines to Kingsford and Randwick. Construction began in 2014 and the line was due to open in April 2018. The plans changed several times during the course of the project, changing the length of the tramway from 45 metres to 67 metres, with associated revisions to the length of all station platforms and the redesign of some stations, There was a switch in the method of electricity supply. The switchover in power supply method was an important part of making Circular Quay - Town Hall wire-free, with no overhead wires in the air, The original plan was to mount batteries on the carbodies and charge them on electrified sections and at stations, but this was replaced by Alstom's own third-gauge surface power collection system. The original plan was for the trains to be divided into electrified and non-electrified sections at Town Hall station, but this has now been changed to electrification of the entire line (aerial overhead wires and ground wires). The expected construction cost was $1.6 billion. In addition, the projected construction cost has been increased from USD 1.6 billion to USD 2.2 billion.

The L2 Randwick line between Circular Quay and Randwick opened 14 December 2019. The four Circular Quay to Town Hall sections on the left are surface-collecting sections without overhead lines. The L3 Kingsford line between Circular Quay and Kingsford, which shares the track to Moorpark, also opened on 3 April 2020.

The Kingsford line from Moorpark to Juniors Kingsford was delayed, but was already guided on the route map when the Randwick line opened five months before completion.

Circular Quay Station, the first station. Adjacent to Sydney Trains' Circular Quay station. The elevated line on the left is Sydney Trains' Circular Quay station. Circular Quay to Moorpark runs on the same track as the L2 Randwick line. This section is described in more detail on the Randwick Line introduction page.

QVB(クイーンビクトリアビルディング)は世界一美しい百貨店とも呼ばれ、人気の観光地です。
Light rail to L3 Juniors Kingsford runs alongside QVB. QVB (Queen Victoria Building) is a popular tourist attraction, also known as the world's most beautiful department stores'. A QVB station has also been installed right next to it. Note that QVB is also connected underground to Sydney Trains' Town Hall station.

The train crosses in front of Town Hall and arrives at Town Hall station. This is the end of the surface-collector section without overhead lines. From here, the aerial overhead line (trolley) section runs to its terminus at Juniors Kingsford. The pantograph, which had been down from Circular Quay to Town Hall, is raised at this station and, like most trams, runs on power collected from the overhead wires.

L2 and L3 light rail passing under Central Station; the L1 Dulwich Hill line underpasses the Central Station approach line. The L1, L2 and L3 intersect twice on the Central Station approach line and also intersect on a level near Chinatown. (Chinatown is signposted as a transfer station). There are few places in Central Station where the light rail intersections can be viewed from a public place, and the image is a lucky shot taken from inside a running Sydney Trains.

Central Charmers Street Station is a transfer station for all trains to and from Sydney. Central Charmers Street station on the Randwick and Kingsford lines, as they do not serve the Central Station premises, Charmers Street was added to the station name rather than simply Central Station. It is a two-sided, three-track structure, similar to the Japanese JNR standard. There used to be a backpacker hotel on this site, from the roof of which you could see all the trains approaching Central Station with its complex wiring. There was a great train view spot. The hotel was a must stay if visiting Sydney, but disappeared with the construction of this light rail line.

There is an artificial underground tunnel section between Surrey Hills and Moore Park. To maintain the park, the light rail has been driven underground, which is an interesting structure not seen in Japan. A turnaround crossing has been installed near the tunnel to accommodate event traffic at Moorpark

Moor Park station is a junction station for the Randwick and Kingsford lines. Please note that one section of the Moorpark to Royal Randwick section of the Randwick line is shared with light rail and bus lanes. The buses on the right side of the image will now enter the shared section with Light Rail.

The Randwick depot is located near Moor Park. This is where all trains running on the Randwick and Kingsford lines are housed. This depot is used for detention and simple inspections, while priority inspections are carried out at the Lilyfield depot on the Dulwich Hill line.

The first stop ES Marks, where the line branched off as the Kingsford line. ES Marks is the name of the adjacent athletics track. From here to the end of the line, just before Juniors Kingsford, the same structure as a standard tramway continues, running in the middle of the road.

Juniors Kingsford is the last stop. Juniors Kingsford station has two island platforms. Light rail uses the two outer platforms, while buses use the two inner platforms, allowing face-to-face transfers between platforms. In order to achieve a flat transfer between light rail and buses, the light rail, which up to this point has been running in the middle of the road, swaps lanes with the buses.

Face-to-face transfers between buses and light rail. Buses run in the middle of the road, like Nagoya's Key Route Bus(KIKAN BUS).

Turnaround line leading from Juniors Kingsford station. It intersects bus lanes on a level crossing.

A bus stops at Juniors Kingsford station. Light rail can be seen in the background waiting on the turnaround line. This innovative structure is designed for convenient bus and light rail connections.

4K cab view video of the entire L3 section from Circular Quay to Juniors Kingsford. Enjoy an interesting cab view as the train goes from surface collection to overhead line collection, through underground tunnels and changes face to face with the buses at the end of the line at Juniors Kingsford.
